From the onset of the movie I felt like I was watching an Indiana Jones saga but in space and the rest of the film never let up on that feeling. The movie in my opinion was a crowd pleasing blockbuster that people will enjoy and there are more than enough easter eggs in the film for all the YouTubers to make a plethora of videos about. It's not my intention to give any spoilers away so I'm keeping my review vague on purpose.
I would be doing a disservice to my review If I didn't mention the political overtones of the film. There are a few references as to the directors opinion on the war on Iraq and we will most definitely hear about the obvious feminist references in the film which almost comes off as sexist with it's agenda pushing dialogue regarding women. Again, I don't want to give away any spoilers so I won't give any specifics, you will see for yourself.
I feel I must appease the crowd seeking esoteric symbolism withing the film and I say to you, there is more than enough for you to chew on. The main antagonist in this film wears a ring bearing an emblem that make obvious allusions to a secret order working behind the scenes and the end will offer a surprise for the crowd when a certain key player is revealed.
Of course no Hollywood blockbuster would be complete without unveling the pyramid symbolism prevalent throughout the industry and you video making You Tubers I imagine will jump all over that.
On a Jungian psychology level this film was more about the blossoming of the ego as Han Solo individuates, finding his identity through his trial and tribulations while becoming what he always wanted to be, an outlaw pilot who lives a life of adventure.
All in all the movie was enjoyable and is a perfect addition to the Star Wars franchise. This is probably the most family friendly Star Wars film we've seen since the first there episodes in the saga. It's a feel good movie and Star Wars could use a few more of those. I say, go see it. It's worth the trip to the movies.
